Road Trip #4

Deh Cho Trail

See All Submissions

Calling all wilderness explorers! We’ve got a road trip just for you. Trade in the city lights for the northern lights as you travel north of Edmonton on the Deh Cho Trail.

This route will take you through the Boreal Forest to High Level. You’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for signs of wildlife—of which there are plenty.

Covering over 58% of Alberta, the Boreal Forest is home to a diverse wilderness population that includes moose, bears, beavers, snowshoe hare, and foxes. It is also home to almost half of all bird species in North America. Birdwatchers, rejoice!

STOPS ALONG THE WAY:

Visit Muskoseepi Park in Grande Prairie where you can take a break from the road and enjoy a game of miniature golf, lawn bowling or disc golf. There’s also the Grande Prairie Museum & Heritage Village, an outdoor pool, and skateboard park among other amenities.

Just west of Grande Prairie you’ll find the Philip J Currie Dinosaur Museum. It’s located near the Pipestone Creek bonebed, one of the densest fossil sites in the world.

The Dunvegan Suspension Bridge spans 750 metres and will take you across the Peace River. It’s the longest vehicle suspension bridge in Alberta and the fourth longest in Canada.

In the “Land of the Mighty Moose” (also known as Manning) you’ll find Morse, the giant moose statute in the centre of town.
